F-150 FX2 Sport finally acknowledged by Ford

Our own Eric Bryant ran across the upcoming Ford F-150 FX2 in the lower level of the Jacob Javits Convention Center at the New York Auto Show and posted on it almost a month ago, and Ford has finally issued a press release stating that the truck exists and will be available this fall.
As we reported last month the FX-2 features a dark billet grille, clear headlamps and a deep front valence the body-colored along with the door handles and side mirror caps. Unique 18-inch wheels and a chrome exhaust tip round out exterior additions, while red stitching on black captain's chairs and a flow through center console with a floor shifter round out the package.
Unfortunately Ford didn't answer Eric's question about whether the 5.4L V8 will be mandatory or optional.
Ford only released two pics of the vehicle, although Eric managed to snap nine at the NYIAS including shots of the interior and the back of the vehicle.
Check 'em all out after the jump along with Ford's official press release.

WITH F-SERIES, THE CUSTOMER IS KING
The FX2 features a dark billet grille, a sporty, deep front valance, monochromatic paint and unique 18-inch wheels.
F-Series customers know exactly what they want, and they aren't shy about letting Ford know.
The 2007 Ford F-150 FX2 is an example of how connected Ford is to its customer base because it is being offered as a result of customer demand for the popular FX package on a two-wheel-drive truck. It also continues Ford's tradition of offering more models, more cab options and more box configurations than any other truck line in North America.
Ford introduced the current F-150 FX4 in the 2004 model year as a specialized truck for the off-road enthusiast seeking rugged 4x4 features, such as shift on the fly and skid plates, and unique styling cues. The new F-150 FX2 carries on the tradition of targeting key customer groups, offering a sport truck aimed at customers looking for a more stylish appearance without the need for 4WD.
"The FX2 is a very different approach for F-150," says Raj Sarkar, assistant marketing manager for F-150. "It looks aggressive both because of its design and its stance. Younger customers are more image conscious, and this truck makes a style statement."
The FX2 features a dark billet grille, clear headlamps with platinum bezels and a sporty, deep front valance. The monochromatic paint scheme adds body color to exterior components such as the bumper fascias, side mirror caps and door handles. Unique 18-inch wheels and a chrome exhaust tip complete the exterior package.
The interior features black captain's chairs with red stitching, in cloth or leather, and a flow-through center console with a floor shifter.
Best of all, the FX2 delivers the style that today's truck buyer is looking for without compromising on the F-150's rugged and dependable qualities.
The Ford F-150 FX2 is a sample of the bold, new offerings coming this fall.
"We keep a close watch on the market and look for trends," says Sarkar. "We work hard to predict the needs of the consumer and be responsive to those needs.

This truck wasn't on the lower floor. It was in the main floor in the Ford display. The one in the lower floor was the new Expedition which is even weirder . . .

Looks great. I love the F-150 in every trim, but I just can't afford the gas (or options) on one. Ford needs to wake up and reinvent small trucks. It's so stupid that during all this gas price craze, every manufacturer going away from large SUVs towards crossovers, yet THERE ARE NO DECENT SMALL TRUCKS. Not everyone wants a huge ass truck. Copy this design, shrink it a couple feet, and give me a new ranger!

Depends on your perspective. Before, if you wanted those sharp black leather buckets, you had to get the four-wheel-drive FX4. So adding the FX2 benefits fuel efficiency.

heys guys...why are all of you talkin so much crap about being a a "gas-guzzler" of coarse its going to use alot of gas, its a full-size v8...but what you have to understand is that some people actually use full-size trucks every day for work. ford is smart by producing a GREAT looking truck for someone that needs a truck...the only thing you should be complaining about is the fact that people buy trucks like this and dont use them as they are intended. in most cases, however, the people that buy these trucks, use these trucks for work...who are they to blame for wanting a nice looking truck, that is also useful

For all you guys worried about the gas guzzlers ya should'nt have UNLESS YA WANT ONE!!!!!, (excuse me) I have my 3rd f-150 triton crew cab an love em. "Back to thought" Instead of worrying about over compensating with too big of a truck or for chics, consider the Sport trac explorer. Maybe a nice pastel color even. It comes down to personal preference an need. If ya want a mans truck get it. If not, opt for something less substantial. They give ya many choices.

I just bought the new Ford FX2 and can't wait to pick it up tomorrow. It is one sweet ride. On the test drive the 5.4 300hp V8 blew me away. For a 58 year old man, this is my mid-life crisis truck! It's everything I want in a truck. For those who are bad mouthing it, the solution is easy. Just don't buy one! I like mine and that's what counts.
